No. Hello Alvin™ is not insurance and does not meet the minimum creditable coverage requirements under the Affordable Care Act. Hello Alvin™ is not intended to replace health insurance. Hello Alvin™ is often used alongside a health insurance plan as a way to reduce your out-of-pocket medical expenses related to treating minor illnesses. Yes. Your entire family can use Hello Alvin™. For the 24-hour Nurse Line and 24-hour Email-a-Doctor services, you can simply use the same login credentials that you established at sign-up. For Teladoc, you can add your spouse and dependents in your Teladoc profile.
You must be 18 years or older to sign up for the Hello Alvin™ service. Any family member can use the service, regardless of age, so long as a parent or guardian is present when using the service for any child under the age of 18 years.
No. Hello Alvin™ and Teladoc consults are not available outside of the United States. The doctors providing you service are only licensed within the 50 United States. If you traveled from your home state of Massachusetts to visit family in California, you could use the service because it is still inside the 50 US States. But, if you traveled from California to Mexico, you could not use the service while in Mexico.
No. Neither Hello Alvin™ nor Teladoc turn patients away because of any pre-existing conditions.
Yes. Your health records are kept completely private and we employ robust encryption methods and HIPAA compliant tools to protect your personal information. You determine who can see the information in your record.
If the doctor prescribes medication, it is submitted electronically (via SureScripts) or by phone to the pharmacy of your choice or as indicated in your profile. Note: Teladoc does not dispense prescription drugs directly.
If medically needed. Teladoc does not guarantee prescriptions. It is up to the doctor to recommend the best treatment. Teladoc doctors do not issue prescriptions for substances controlled by the DEA, non-therapeutic, and/or certain other drugs which may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. These include, but are not limited to, antidepressant drugs such as Cymbalta, Prozac and Zoloft which are drugs that are harmful due to their potential for abuse. No. Alvin Healthcare™, Hello Alvin™ and Alvin™ are not health insurance, but we help many people who are either without an insurance plan, have a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) or want the convenience of not having to spend time traveling to an Urgent Care or ER for a minor illness for them or their family member. Anyone can use Hello Alvin™, whether insured or not.
No. You do not need to have a health insurance plan to access our doctors and nurses 24/7. Just pay our low annual fee and you can speak or video chat with a doctor anytime for just $45. It’s just like going to a walk-in urgent care or ER, except without all of the travel and high costs. And, if you need a prescription – they can write you one if they believe it to be medically needed. You’ll also have 24/7 unlimited access to our Registered Nurse Line and Email-a-Doctor services at no additional cost.
Not a lot! There are two components to our service. Your annual Alvin subscription fee is only $100 per year for the entire family to have access to our suite of healthcare tools. This annual fee also includes unlimited 24hr access to our Registered Nurse Line and also gives you unlimited Email-a-Doctor access to get advice from doctors, dentists, pharmacists, fitness professionals, dieticians and more through our secure email platform. The second component only applies if you want to utilize our Teladoc service to have a video or voice consultation with a Teladoc U.S. Board Certified physician. That fee is only a $45 per virtual doctor visit. Best of all, the consult can start in as little as 10 minutes from the time you request one. The doctor can write you a prescription, should they feel it medically necessary to do so.

Not Currently. Currently, you cannot request a particular doctor. Alvin and Teladoc are not a replacement for primary care physicians. We are designed to support primary care when your doctor is not available. Or, provide acute minor care for those times when you’d normally go to the Urgent Care or Emergency Room for routine medical issues, as listed previously. Your virtual doctor visit record with Teladoc can be sent to your primary care doctor, should you wish.
